Clyde M. Shaw, Senior Pastor
First, I would like to thank everyone who has been praying for me the last number of years. On March 26, 2007, I underwent liver transplant surgery to save my life from a liver disease that I had been suffering from for over twenty years. I know that because of prayers God sustained me through this long period of time. Although I did not receive a supernatural healing, I have been helped by the transplant surgery. The surgery itself has elements of a miracle. One element is that on any given day there are 100,000 people on the transplant waiting list, waiting for an organ. My miracle is that there was a liver provided for me.
At this time I am feeling better than I have for several years. My main complaint at present is a great deal of pain in my incision area. This will take more time to be relieved and my overall recuperation will take another six to nine months. I am still weak but, stronger than I have been for more than a year.
In 2007 I became so disabled that I could not carry out the duties of a Pastor. In December it was discovered that I had developed a malignant tumor in my liver. So at the end of December I began to make changes in the leadership structure of the church. With the help of Bro. Bradley Miller, we ordained my son, Samuel Shaw, to be Pastor. We also ordained James Beck to be associate Pastor and Michael Davenport to help Sam and James, especially with the youth. I adopted the title of Senior Pastor, with hope of being a help to these fine young men. I hope to visit more churches and desire to be a blessing everywhere. I also want to be able to attend most of the meetings. Please pray that I will not be a hindrance.
In addition to the three young men mentioned, we also have a number of other fine men, many of them recognized as elders. At this time, the church in Jerseyville is doing well under this new arrangement. Please pray that the church will continue to thrive as it has for over 80 years and continue in the work of restoration.
Once again thank you for all of your concern, prayers, visits, calls, cards, and even financial help. The response to my situation has humbled me and made me recognize more fully the Godliness of the people in this body.
Your servant in Christ,
Clyde M. Shaw
